Just OK.
Extremely dark read. I really wanted to like this because I loved the concept, but it started to fall apart in the second half and I was just left unsatisfied in the end. Also relies way too heavily on shock value.

Gruesome!
This is my first Karin Slaughter book, and the 1st chapter grabbed my attention immediately, I was already in full detective mode! Julia Carroll disappeared in 1991, and no one ever found her body. The girl’s mother grieved and moved on with her life and the dad dedicated his entire life to searching for Julia. After several years down the line another girl has now came up missing and a middle-aged man has been killed as well. Could these two stories link them to Julia’s disappearance? Claire and Lydia are two sisters who go through some bad stuff due to secrets that have troubled their entire life. In this story the author will show you how the terrible events brought them closer together because in the end they were all they really had. Claire and Paul were in the alley when Paul was stabbed and killed, and this is where the story begins. After Paul’s death, Claire could not function, because she built her entire life around Paul, after searching for the Snake Man who supposedly killed Paul, Claire also learns about Paul kinky side and his obsessions. *This is where a lot of women make a mistake with their spouses, it’s never wrong to relinquish control over to the head of your house, but what is wrong is when you give that person complete power over you, meaning ~ Claire was mad at her dead husband for not being there to solve “HER” problems. Your spouse isn’t there to solve your problems, they are there to help you through them. * The cop’s aka Nolan couldn’t be trusted, and the thrill of this story was on point to me. Since my love for Law & Order, Sopranos, The Wire, and Crime Shows happens to be my go-to Movie selections. and all those types of shows. The graphic gruesome details of this book did not bother me as much as I thought it would, so I will say if you cannot handle bloody scenes being described to the complexity of mind visuals this isn’t the book for you. 😊 I must admit, Paul scared me, I jumped while reading the ending of chapter 11. 😁 I did feel like it was two stories within one story but the more I kept reading the more everything was starting to connect and by the end of the book it all made sense. I do like how the author did drop gems here and there regarding the safety of women and closure. Now the most compelling part to this story was the letters from Sam, the dad, reading them made me feel sad and they were so heartfelt, you could feel the love he had for his family and the words he would never be able to express to his daughter Julia. My rating for this one is a 4.5 ⭐ Favorite Quote: No matter how far you ran, you always ended up back where you started

Loved the sister combo
I really enjoyed the authors style of writing. The plot was unputdownable and there was twists in every few chapters. Overall a book I enjoyed through and through.

4 stars
PRETTY GIRLS by Karin Slaughter My first Karin Slaughter book and wow this was intense, but also so incredibly engrossing! Even though the chapters were way too long and some scenes went into a lot more (gory) detail than necessary to make a point, I am glad I stuck with it. I read a lot of dark books (and love true crime) so I might be a bit desensitized, but I didn’t find the subject matter to be particularly disturbing. However, YMMV. Was this kinda predictable? Yes. However, I still felt like I was right there with Claire and Lydia as they were putting all the messed up puzzle pieces together. Recommend if you like a good mystery thriller, but check the trigger warnings. Rating: 4/5 ⭐️

Gruesome, horrifying and amazing!
The only reason it’s not a 5 star read, was because it started off kind of slow. But once i started to understand the plot and characters, I was not able to put this book down. There were times my stomach went upside down uncomfortably, and there were times I threw my book because of the plot twists. Read the TRIGGER WARNINGS before reading if you are a sensitive reader. Do not waste your money if you think it will be too much.

Soooo Good!
📖📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚📖 Title: Pretty Girls Author: Karin Slaughter Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Pub date: May 1, 2018 I can’t believe we’re only in the second month of the year and this is already the third book I’m saying this about… but wow. Just wow. This book is not for the faint of heart. There aren’t official trigger warnings, but honestly, there probably should be. It’s dark, disturbing, and doesn’t hold back. This was actually my second time reading it (which I rarely ever do!), but I picked it back up for book club — and somehow it hit just as hard the second time around. The story is told through the perspectives of two sisters, with heartbreaking letters from a father to his missing daughter mixed in. The dual POV and the letters add so much emotional depth. It’s unsettling from the start — you don’t know who to trust, and there’s this constant tension that keeps building. You genuinely feel for this family and everything they’ve endured. The grief, the trauma, the secrets… it all feels very real. And when everything finally ties together at the end? Absolutely chilling.
