Great Looking Shorts Runs Small

My husband has a few pairs of these from years back in size large and wears them all the time. I ordered these in large for him. He could barely get them on and he’s skinny! I’ll be exchanging the XL next but something tells me I may need to even go to xxl to cover any shrinkage that may occur with washing. For reference he wears a 34-36. Also- They aren’t made of the soft cotton as in the past either. Hopefully they work out because they do look nice.
